Hi There!!
The reason I am taking this class is to get a better understanding of what is in the realm of things that can be patented and what can't. In addition, my dad owns several patents and I want to learn what he was able to do that was unique that allowed him to get his patents. I feel like this class is very practical and especially if I ever decide to do anything entrepreneurial, it is important to know if you can patent your idea or product if it is novel. Conversely, it would be important to learn what you can't patent or what has already been patented so you don't infringe upon someone else's work.
In addition, I am taking this class to fulfill the Certificate of Entrepreneurship & Technology offered by the Fung Institute here at Berkeley. I think this class will provide me some practical knowledge that can come in handy in the future. I also enjoy the aspect of being able to see a patent trial happen because it will augment the in-class learning that we will have. I lastly chose this class because it wasn't about law, but more about the technology which I thought would be extremely interesting.
I agree that this class seems useful for entrepreneurial work (and towards the CET certificate) and exciting (rambling in these comments and visiting a patent trial--count me in!). It sounds like you also like this class because it's about both technology and law, without overwhelming us with either engineering or legal minutia.
ReplyDeleteI'm very much excited to see intellectual property litigation in action as well! I also agree that this is probably one of the most useful classes that I'll take during my time here at Berkeley Engineering and will provide the groundwork we need if we want to patent anything in the future.
ReplyDeleteHi Yash,
ReplyDeleteI share the same interest of learning about the rules behind patenting: what can we or can't we patent? I think patent law is important, and it's great to take this course from the perspective of engineering. I definitely agree that concepts such as patenting allow us to gain more practical knowledge, which will definitely be important for all of us in our future careers.
See you in class!
